I have been meaning to attempt a project with Mod Podge so I figured what better time than Grandparent's Day. This would be my first project and I felt safe making it for my dad, because let's face it, he would love it even if it was no where near perfect. To my surprise this was very simple and turned out great! You can bet I will be making one for myself very soon!
Natural wood plaque from Hobby Lobby $2.99
Painted it the prettiest blue I have ever seen! While I was at it I painted a frame that I plan to use for a different project.
After the paint dried I affixed this pretty piece of scrapbook paper to the plaque using Mod Podge <---- Love it! Want to marry it! and smoothed out the bubbles with a gift card. Very sophisticated technique. Uh-huh.
After the Mod Podge dried I sanded the edges of the paper.
Next I distressed the edges with a distressing ink pad I got on clearance at Hobby Lobby.
I was too nervous to use it directly from the stamp pad so I used a sponge.

Meanwhile Daddy took Kenzie to the store and Allie stayed home for some one on one time with me. While the distressing ink dried Allie worked on a big girl craft since little sister wasn't around to eat the pieces! She made a necklace from a kit I found at Hobby Lobby for .76 cents!

When Kenzie got back I traced the girls hands onto card stock to use as templates for multiple projects. I cut them out and traced them onto my chosen scrapbook paper for the project. (Sorry for the poor picture)
The hand prints turned out so cute!
As you can see I attached some Grandpa themed stickers and used Mod Podge to affix the hand prints. Next I applied Mod Podge to the entire plaque and let it dry. Then I attached a picture hanger hook to the back of the plaque.
Voila!
The finished project. The first of MANY projects to come.
