16 Weeks

I went for my 16 week check up today and heard the baby's heartbeat.  All is well with baby thank goodness.  I have gained 2 pounds so far this pregnancy and I hope I can continue to keep the weight gain low this time around!

I did find out today that the annoying itchy feeling I have had in my right leg is RLS - Restless Leg Syndrome.  It isn't anything serious and it should disappear after pregnancy it is just super duper annoying!  It feels like my leg itches inside.  I can't relieve the itch by scratching my leg.  Others have described the feeling as bugs crawling under their skin.  Sounds great right?  The sensation is worse in the evenings making it difficult to fall asleep.  My doctor recommended taking regular Benedryl if the symptoms get to be too much to handle.

The Dr. went over my last ultrasound report and told me I have an anterior placenta.  That simply means the placenta is positioned in front of the baby instead of behind providing a cushion between the baby and my tummy which is most likely why I haven't felt the baby move yet.  It is nothing to worry about and should not cause any problems.  It will most likely move either down or around to the back later in pregnancy.  So, I will keep waiting patiently for my little one to grow big enough for me to feel him (or her) moving around in there.

On that note I do have news from our ultrasound with the specialist.  I went in at 14 weeks and everything looked wonderful in terms of the baby but, we were given a small gift that day.  It looks like we are having a boy!!  I knew it!  Now, the Dr. would not confirm this as it was still early so we have to wait until 20 weeks when I go back to find for sure if we are having a boy or a girl.

Although my initial "preference" was another girl, because that is all I know and what I am used to, I have had a couple of weeks to get used to the idea of having a son.  I have convinced myself that it is in fact a boy and I already love him.  I can already imagine what he will look like.  I hope he has Bryan's beautiful blue/green eyes.  And at this point I would be a bit disappointed if they told us the baby was in fact a girl.  So here's hoping the early ultrasound prediction was right.  And of course, any baby will truly light up our lives and is a blessing straight from Him.

There isn't much change in my tummy but here is an updated picture.
